Add some fuel, see if it cranks, may have a fuel strainer issue not letting fuel threw pump when low tank levels. Although it could be any number of other issues., Your gauge could be lying to you. It may just have been a coincidence it died going up hill, see if it has spark & fuel. Do add some fuel to tank.

Of course check all your fuses under dash and hood. If the engine light was on when this happened scan it for codes. If the battery is or was weak charge it / test it / replace it if needed. May also have a fuse at the computer. Check your engine to frame grounds, and ground for computer.
