MY 4X4 IS NOT CATCHING AT ALL

MY 4X4 STICK FREELY MOVES BACK & FORTH WITHOUT CATCHING ; AND IM HEARING A NOISE LIFE SOMETHING IS ROTATING UNDER THE DASH EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE GAS

Is it a electrinic shift? if it is the solinoid is bad. Just because it is on the floor does not mean it is a manuall shift

see if linkage/cable popped off at the transfercase.Does lever on t-case move when lever is pulled inside vehc? if all ok. then the range fork in t-case is bad, and it is basically stuck in neutral. will have to tear t-case apart to fix. Hope this helps
