Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought this truck as a project car but transmission needs to be rebuilt. This
is my first truck and the fist car I've had with transmission issues. I just
wanted to check if I was correct in the transmission being a 46RE for the
2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 5.2l engine. 4 speed auto, Gas. All the
research I've found so far have mostly turned up with the 2WD model or the
Manual transmission. truck has over 200k miles so just going to rebuild it
and I want to make sure i get the right kit for it. I already have someone
willing to rebuild it luckily but whats the harm in knowing the details right?

maybe the dealer can give you RPO codes from the VIN # . There should be a number on the tranny or an example on line , look at the pan bolts and other features . If the builder is any good they should know ..

I was able to find what i was looking for. It was a A518/46RE same kits can be used as the 1500/2500 truck and van with 4x4. Knowing the price of the kits, I can at least make sure I'm not beat over the head in that department. (around $300 depending on the make) just posting my findings in case anyone else needs the info.
