Something in your volt gauge circuit is shorted to ground would be a start.
I have a 2005 Ram 1500. My check gauge light came on so naturally you look at the gauges.I noticed my battery gauge wast working it was reading zero.I new my alternator was good and my battery was goods I knew that wasn't the issue.I shut the truck off then restarted and everything would go back to normal. Now, what I did have going on prior to this meaning a month or so, I started getting a squealing noise when I would run the air. The squeeling noise was a idler pully I changed both of mine as there is two of them and they are easy and cheap to fix..It corrected 2 problems,1) the squealing noise, 2) it stopped the check gauge light from coming on.The reason the light comes on is because if the bully freezes/sticks or whatever that's when it interferes with the system and gives an interval of no charging from alternator to battery. Thus causing the check gauges light to come on and your battery gauge to show zero on the gauge..Problems solved...Good Luck !!!

Does anyone have a solution. Need help
I own a 1999 dodge ram 1500 with a 2000 engine in it. The battery check gages went off and it was reading 14.35 just fine. But now all of a sidden every time i rev up it reads higher if im hitting 1800 rpm the alternator hits 18V only time i got back to 14 volts was when im idling.
