help on transmission

If you have not already done so, first thing to do is check your transmission fluid level. The '99 Ram 1500 4WD with the 5.2 Magnum has the A518/46RH-RE 4 speed automatic. I read up on that, and there have been lots of owners with transmission Valve Body solenoid problems, and the BCM aka Body Control Module.

The problem with reverse is that the second gear clutch servo, That's the one that operates reverse. It has a defect in the grove that holds the piston seal. when it fails(the seal) you do not have enough fluid pressure to engage the clutch at low rpm at a higher rpm it does at first that is why second gear works but it will soon fail. This information about the grove being a factory defect was included with my parts list I got with my rebuild kit. I know about this years ago but they never posted it because there was not a modified seal. Now that their is they say (Their might be a factory defect) I got a laugh out of that I guess dodge did not give them a full disclosure.

I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 2 wheel drive 46 rh transmission, when cold reverse is noisy and don`t want to ingage, but after it warms up no proplems, no noise and goes in reverse just fine
