99 ram 1500 wont start

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 I drove it all day long parked
it and took the keys out with it still running. Shut it off
without the keys and started it again without using the
keys.  After I shut the truck off and turned the ignition all
the way back to where it locks and you can't use it without
the key I left. Now it will not start. Not without it being
jumped with jumper cables. As soon as I do that it starts
right up. If you shut it off then it will not start again. Truck
has automatic locks on it but no key fob so I don't think
there's actually an alarm. Any ideas?

Make sure the battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. With everything off, use a digital multimeter across battery posts, what is the reading, 12.6 volts is a generic spec for a full charge. If the battery is down, use a charger on it, if the battery is down, we're just spinning our wheels. The charging system is working ok? You can leave meter leads touching the battery posts, have helper turn key to crank, how does the reading, react? Usually it shouldn't drop below 9 volts. If it drops down to zero, that isn't going to work. On the other hand, if it doesn't drop much at all, you got an open circuit, somewhere. Wanted to add, engine cranking, the vehicle systems get battery voltage. Engine running, the systems get generator voltage, that can be several volt difference.
