Fix a leak from the outside of a transmission pan

Asked by Jessica Jan 14, 2020 at 10:28 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just changed my transmission fliter and fluid in my
truck but noticed a leak and it was coming from
the outside of the rim of the transmission pan
what is the best thing to fix that with and can i still
be able to drive my truck even thou it has leaking
from there? Someone said to try JB welding or a
seal all to help stop the leak is that true?

I thought maybe i tightened the bolts to tight so i loosened them a little and there still a small leak I was gonna try the JB welding or the seal all but thought i would ask first?

New gasket and don't over tighten the bolts. Also make sure the pan surface is not warped or bent. JB Weld does NOT belong anywhere near a transmission.

If you want a guaranteed leak proof seal install a MagHytec pan on the transmission.
