Oil pressure high under acceleration

Asked by GuruVYC77 Aug 08, 2018 at 02:22 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9 liter V8
under idle my oil pressure gauge reads mid-range
however under acceleration it climbs to three-
quarters of the way whereas up until 6 months ago
it rarely went beyond the midpoint between mid-
range and three-quarters say 60% now it's reading
75 say 80% what could the issue be research tells
me it's oil pressure sensor but most everything
else says that's only the case if the oil pressure is
low

Pressure can be low because of internal wear of the oil pump, a clogged inlet, pressure relief valve issue or internal wear of your engines bearings, run a slightly thicker oil and see if the pressure goes back to where you're happy with it
