1998 ram 1500 4wd engine shuts off when i turn heater selector knob on

1998 dodge ram 1500 4wd, heater selector knob has off position and max a.c and defrost  etc
when its in off position engine starts and runs fine,when i turn to any on positions it stalls engine

Most likely, the alternator's going out and not producing enough power it should. Are you running any electrical accessories that could strain the alternator such as subs, amps, inverters, etc?

no im not the knob i turn for the heat selector and a/c defrost , vents and turn heater on and off etc is vacuum operated has vacuum lines plugged in back of it
