Misfire in cylendar 5

Asked by lynchie711 Nov 06, 2015 at 07:28 AM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Quad Cab LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 dodge 1500 5.9 litre with a misfire in 5. I changed the plug, wires, fuel injector, fuel injector top electrical plug and checked the fuel pressure. The pressure is fine and stays consistant. It smoothes out and runs fine after the rpm's are above 1000. Any ideas?

Anything I can do for the compression if that ends up being the problem? Maybe some build up that some injector clener or some thing I can add the fuel or oil?

The only thing I can think of would be carbon build-up on the valves, could try a cleaner of some sort to run thew the gas, I think I would do that first before compression results, you would want to do a wet test to determine if it is the rings or valves.

I Should add on the wet test, you want to know what the compression is before the wet test.
