will compressing caliper without opening bleeder on 2001 suburban damage abs?

I compressed the rear caliper without opening the bleeder now abs light comes on. Haynes says to open bleeder. does this damage abs? is this fixable?

I never open the bleeder, there are sensors back there, maybe a wire is off. I think the code should say and will clear easy enough with a scanner.
