I just rebuilt my 1996 dodge ram 1500 5.2l new
larger cams , new piston s and rings new timing
chain plugs wires , coil , thermostat , fuel pump ,
battery , new heads and springs , new roller rockers
and push rods ,  would start and run but ran rough
had a vacuum leak and a slight gas leak now I
cannot get it to run , it will crank and sputter like it
wants to start but will not start. Killed the battery
and recharged it over night,  tryed to start next
morning with same result,  have fuel pressure and
can smell fuel when cranked but other than the
sputter it womt start.

check for strong spark , the cam and crank sensors may have to be synced then the computer can time it , the after market parts may be throwing it a curve ball , you might need a technician

Larger cams? It only has one.... Are you sure the cam timing is set correctly? Have you run a compression test on it? Is the valve clearance set correctly?

I typed in a hurry , yes only has one cam and a large one, the heads are updated cast iron custom made for my cam and exhaust. Compression average is 195 ( installed new plasma Molly rings ) . I had it running but ran rough , had a small hole in the fuel line at the fuel pump. There is no valve lash adjustment needed as i added hydrolic lifters and not the flat tappet which are torqued. Fuel time is set but seems to shut off after a few cranks. Crank plate in trannsmission was removed cleaned and reinstalled. But now sitting at a no start. Just cranks and sputters every few cranks.

Did you repair the fuel leak? Have you measured the fuel pressure?

Fuel leak has been found and repaired , was a hard one to find , it was the plastic line that leads to the fuel regulator. Fuel pressure is good now with the new pump and line reading between 48 and 49 lbs.

Problem solved found out I had a broken wire in the coolant temp sensor harness and was flooding the engine. Let it dry started it ran high for 20 min but no codes thrown , noticed temp gauge didn't move , replaced coolant sensor and still same problem , checked coolant plug on harness and had nothing and I know there should be 5 volts to that wire. Thought this would be good info for Any one else having similar issues.
