Transmission issue 95 Dodge ram

I have a red 1995 dodge ram 1500 I got it from a
guy that said he was driving down the road one day
and it felt like someone threw the emergency break
on so he sold the truck. We got it and we took the
transmission off ended up this guy melted every
clutch plate together so my dad who works on
transmissions and cars did a rebuild on the
transmission and we replaced everything that
comes in the kits and we replaced the valve body  
all the adjustments are right also but now the truck
will only go in park , reverse , and neutral.  If you
switch it to drive or 1 or 2 ir will act like it is in
neutral. Does anyone have any answers or ideas
what could be going on?
