how do I get a tach to work in this model truck?

does it have one already in the gauge cluster? If not you will need to install one (all aftermarket kits have detailed instructions). If it does have one and it is not working, It could be the pick-up (the trigger in the coil/cam), the cluster, or the wiring. for that I would take it to a auto electric specialist. Best of luck
