Limp mode is a condition that the vehicle goes to to protect the engine and transmission when a sensor detects a problem. It can be many things, and not just one. If your check or service engine light is on, that means there are codes stored in the system that can be retrieved with an OBDii Code scanner to help you find the problem. An auto parts store can do this for free, you can buy one for $20, or have a mechanic look it over.
