CRV won't start in P

Hi sometimes the car will start in P but sometimes it won't.
Then I have to put it in N and then it starts right away. I
noticed that my left front wheel is leaking brake fluid. This
was about the same time it won't start. The lights on the dash
come on but the engine won't crank. Could this mean some
sort of safety because it is leaking brake fluid ?

You may have to adjust your DTRS.
Is that something I can do by myself or do I need to see the mechanic? What does DTRS means? Thanks
DTRS is Digital Transmission Range Sensor. Your shifter is connected to your transmission via rods. At the opposite end of those rods, at the transmission, is the DTRS. Its usually a flat, slim box about 4"x4" with a swingarm and an electrical connector. You can try putting the car in park and marking the position of the arm, the disconnecting the rod and gently try to move the arm a little further to the end that its at. If that doesnt work, look up how to adjust it for your vehicle. It can be a little intimidating, so dont hesitate to bring it to a pro if youre in over your head.
Hi Michael I tried doing what you told me and yes it works fine again. However I must confess that I ve been driving for 4 days in a flooded area and I think that may cause the problem. It was all dirty and muddy and branches sticking out under the vehicle. So I cleaned it up and now its ok again ! Thanks for the advise !
