is there a dash fuel selector knob? or does the fuel automatically move when
one tank is empty?

Ford used a few fuel delivery systems back then, one had a switch that you could manually switch front to rear and back again, the other used a fuel leveling system that used both tanks simultaneously. I never trusted the fuel leveling system.
