Injectors wire shorted

Asked by Darren Mar 02, 2024 at 10:14 PM about the 2001 Ford F-150 Lariat Extended Cab 4WD LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was pushing on my injector wire then it sparked
know it will not start. Sounded like the fuel pump
was stuck on now that stopped then I was checking
the fuses and know it will not crank over buy it will if
you jump across the starter solid this happen once
before and back then it came up with code 11
changed the fuse it was all good. Also when I was
checking the fuses the fuses box in the cab the last
row to the right on one fuse has power. Also the
odometer has just lines going through it . That could
mean lost power to the computer? Please let me
know what you think.   Thank you

As vehicles age, they get frail, and that's especially true for a truck that's over twenty years old. That injector wire is a ground and when it sparked, I suspect it pulled apart and the short could have fried anything. Fuel pumps build pressure and when proper pressure is reached, they shut off. You need an electrical mechanic to find all that's damaged, and I suspect that the cost is going to be more than the three grand your 23 year old truck's worth.

Sounds like the injector power shorted to the injector ground, that ground is controlled by the ECM so a short into that circuit can fry the ECM and also blow injector fuses and ECM main power fuse. So Ed is right about needing a professional to trace it down and fix it right, if it is tested wrong it can fry new components. Yes it can be a budget killer with a shops labor rates today. But you might be money ahead fixing it especially if the truck is still in decent shape and it fixed compared to buying another truck.
