how do I install a tach on a v6 4.2 LITER 1999 F 150 THANKS

first on back of tac in a slot,you will see a switch knod you will see 4 6 8.put knob on 6 for 6 cylender.mount on steering collum ,tac on left side get a big clamp ,clamp around collum. ,white wire to hot fuse,black to ground,green to neg coil wire.

did all that but the tac still didnt work. when i put the green wire to the neg on the coil my truck started to miss
