What could cause my pickup to die giving gas in gear?

Asked by Guru9ZP69Z Dec 14, 2020 at 10:59 PM about the 1996 Ford F-150 XL 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the TPS, new fuel pump, new fuel filter,
new spark plugs and wires, fresh oil and cleaned
throttle body. But still when I’m in gear it will die
sometimes any gear and won’t work again until I turn
the pickup off and start again. It’s a standard 5 speed
I can shift to neutral and it will rev fine but in gear it
dies when given gas.

Just a suggestion. If you have to turn the key to the off position before starting again, the problem could be in the ignition switch. The car should re-start, I believe, from the fun position, if it dies, withut going back to "off".
