Typo-won't start with starting fluid, have spark at plugs, good fuel pressure at the rail, mech timing about 8 btdc, pcm no codes, it acts like a timing issue but I don't know if that is possible since I am getting spark at the plugs. Also I think after cranking I should get slightly wet plugs but they stay pretty dry.

Check the compression, also make that the wires are set up in the correct firing order.

Did check the wires, correct according to the diagram on the truck, compression is good

If it's not starting with starting fluid. Then it's most likely the timing is off and you will, still have spark but If it's not in the right order then it won't start try setting it for 10 btdc

Thank you, I have tried 10 btdc and 6btdc, at 6 with the throttle wide open (WOT) it tries to fire up but never quite gets there. I leaning toward a bad pickup in the distributor, somehow triggering but not at the right interval? Any thoughts?
