What is pipe for on 1990 ford f 150?

What is the side pipe that goes from oil pan up to side of engine block canister
that bolts to engine on a 1990 ford f 150 300 4.9 L straight 6 engine?

F_O_R If you need a photo, you don't really know what this is for. This hose runs from the oil pan to the bottom of a canister and is just lower and behind the engine oil filter.

F_O_R It's not that I don't want help, it's just that I have looked at hundreds of pics and videos on line at all years of 300 4.9 L straight sixes and have yet to see this one with hose coming up off the oil pan. It looks like it might be for vacuum as the top of the steel canister has at least 2 hoses coming off it. The hose on the pan end screws into the pan and is not near the fill tube but on the same side. I can not even find an oil pan that has this threaded hole in the side of the pan. I have a hard time believing this is the only 6 with this set up. It looks very much factory made when the engine was built.
