1990 f-150 will not go into gear

I have a 1990 F150 with E4OD Tranny.  When I start the truck it will go into reverse or drive but then will "slip" out of gear and not move.  I have to turn off the truck for a couple of minutes and then restart and it will go into gear but then slip out again.  I replaced the Neutral Safety Switch (NSS), also know as Trans. Range Sensor or Manual Lever Position Sensor.  After installation I still have same problem.  Anything else to check?

Trash in the Transmission pan. It's possible that something mechanical has failed and put enough debrin in the trans pan that the filter fills up quickly and won't keep anything engaged. If that isn't the case, you'll need to find a Transmission guy with gauges and specs to check it out.

It is the matic. I was thinking about dropping the pan to see if the filter had fallen. What do you think?
