what would be a good replacement motor? How about doing away with the computer and fuel injection?

Just replace with an original engine, the fuel injection and electronic ignition makes your car a lot more driveable than old school carb and dizzy setups would. Not to mention the possible problems with the rest of the cars electronics. Modern cars rely heavily on the computers on board, from engine management to transmission shifting...

Lars is right. modern fuel injected engines are better than old carb engines in almost every way. They get better fuel economy, have more power, and last longer.

Or, you just could drop a diesel engine into it. Diesels are very reliable and have long lives. If you treat them right, they can last well over 500,000 miles. Not to mention they have a ton more power than the gas engines. Just a thought.

I have an '87 F-250 4x4 I'll sell ya! 9MPG and cranky in the morning. 460 4 bbl carb that requires rebuilding every other year and regularly blows out Power Valves at $24 a "pop". If you want a Hot Rod - Buy a Hot Rod. I have an old Farm truck.
