Dual Tanks

Asked by Jun 08, 2017 at 11:07 PM about the 1997 Ford F-250 2 Dr XLT 4WD Extended Cab SB HD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently bought a 97' F-250 & realized that the rear
tank hose is messed up &a leaks gas. I really don't
ever use it so I don't want to spend the money or
labor on fixing it. I tried to let the gas just leak out of
it but when I switch over to the "Rear" tank it says
it's full? 1 week later & gas is still leaking out when
running. Not when parked & left to sit. Please help
me out!

Syphon out what you can. Drive on the rest of it. Get it almost empty so you can drop if needed, If it can be fixed without dropping the tank, where is the cost & labour. It has two straps that hold the tank in place. If you can lay on your back and look forward and move your arms you can do this yourself.

Rubber hose or metal gas Line?

If you have too just repair in place. Gas Line Metal (compression fittings). Rubber (put metal pipe inside hose and clamp both ends to metal pipe.

It's just the rubber hose. the filler neck is what someone told me it's called. I don't know if I'll have to replace the entire hose or just the part where it clamps on. I've seen online that they go anywhere from like $80-120 just for the hose, that's why I never really wanted to change it

May still have to drop tank at-least a little bit, get one at a junk yard. See if you have a pull-a-part near by, just pull yours first and see if its repairable as is without replacing it, Also you will know how and what tools are needed to pull one in the field at pull-a-part.
