Clutch or greashift problem?

Asked by HelpMe2 May 22, 2013 at 03:57 PM about the 2002 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Two weeks ago I had slave cylinder in my 320 replaced due to shifting problems (pedal would not come up) and evidence of leakage. 35000 miles on car. Three current incidences of depressing clutch pedal...resulting in grinding/clunking noise and gear shift does not engage. When I return shift to neutral position, the clutch comes up and I can press again and engage shift. Has happened each time starting from a dead stop. Any suggestions about what is possibly going on?

I am the owner, and asked the question. The resolution was to replace the master cylinder as well. The issue is resolved.

just for reference, since i missed your original post, always replace slave and master at the same time, it's just good practice. sorry this happened to you, but now you know.
