CHeck engine Light

Asked by oneilcat Nov 26, 2012 at 04:48 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving along and the check engine light came on---stopped at an auto parts chain store who did one of those computer diagnose checks. The results he said was transmission slippage. I have noticed no slippage however, when pulling off from a stopped position going into first seemed a bit rough. This vehicle has 165k miles and has been well maintained. I have driven the vehicle twice (10 miles and around 100 miles). I had no problems other than the check engine light on. What should be looking for? I have an appointment in 2 days for a check on the problem.

I would need the exact code. Transmission slippage isnt a code, its someone guessing what a code actually means.

On top of what Andrew said, parts stores don't have scanners that read trans codes.
