Transmission slipping

Asked by smc27 Apr 28, 2014 at 04:15 PM about the 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 4dr Access Cab SB with V8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2006 Tundra has a slipping problem in 1st and second gear but once it kicks in past third its fine.. I never had this problem until one time I needed a jump start and someone hooked up / the jumper cables in reverse which fried a bunch of electrical diodes through out the trucks electrical system , which I had Toyota Service department fix.. But ever since then my trucks transmission started to behave strangely. It works just like new, completely normal, if I remove the battery cables for 10 mins. and this seems to reset the transmission.. It will at that point run perfectly normal for a 1 or 2 hundred miles , and then begins slightly slipping during take off between 1st and 2nd gears and progressivly gets worse until I remove the battery cables and reset the tranny again, and then it works fine again for a couple hundred more miles.. Anyone have any idea what this problem is ? Is it electrical . or the tranny itself?

the tundra has an independent ecu which picks up from a set of sensors in the transmission odds on one of the sensors have malfunctioned giving false reading to the ecu causing the transmission slip service the transmission changing the internal filter and clean up the sensors with either switch cleaner or wire wool depending on the type and this should cure it but if one of the sensors are fried it will need replacing regards john j.s autos

Ditto on the disconnect the battery. My 2007 Tundra woke up this morning with a check engine light and a slipping trans. Took it to AZone to check the code and they said smog pump. Disconnected and reconnected the battery and both issues disappeared. Close lightning strike yesterday here in FLA so I'm wondering if there is a connection.

My 2013 tundra was bought new. Had the same problem. 7 years later and 88k miles. The transmission failed even after trying the battery disconnect trick. $4k out of pocket.
