I have a 96 tercel. When i down shift or put on my break it seems to loose power. Where might my power be loosing from?

I don't know man.. can you explain "seems to lose power" in a little better detail? Down shifting should give you more power, relatively! lol while braking, you shouldn't "feel a loss of power". These scenarios seem odd to me. Does the car have hesitation right after you downshift and are starting to push on the throttle? Is the idle dropping really low between shifts or while braking? Details please
