Truck Reving up But Not Accelerating STRANDED, Transmission?!

Yes, I'm looking to find out the exact issue on my
truck before I go to the mechanics to get an issue
fixed that I may be able to fix myself. Today I was
driving and hit a pothole way too hard. This was an
issue Im pretty sure with the transmission because
for the past month now i've been hearing this sound
that sounds like the engine is overworking when
driving at about 40-50 mph, while going through
this I would turn the overdrive off and the sound
would go completely away. After getting above
50mph i could then press the button to turn
overdrive back on and itd be fine. Until today when i
was doing this and was going down a dirt road, hit
a few bumps too hard, then eventually hit a pothole.
While listening to music quite loudly i began to
recognize this odd sounding noise and from there i
turned my sound system off. each time i would
place my foot on the gas pedal the revs would just
go way too high so i would let go and it would not
actually accelerate. I was stranded on the road as i
finally had to push myself back in nuetral onto the
side. i was eventually towed back home and now
the truck some how works but still with the same
issue of me having to turn over drive off during 40-
50mph, is the truck safe to drive out the door
without being stranded again? What is the
problem? What can I do to fix this? the transmission
fluid is fine, and was not burning. Also, during the
issue of the car not actually accelerating there was
this weird noise that sounded like nothing i've ever
heard before that sounded like a dog growling.
Sounded like a transmission issue. Anybody have
any advice what soever? Is it safe to drive? Is it
really the transmission? What is the issue? After
placing the OBDM reading on it. It says nothing is
wrong. However I see different. The check engine
light is NOT on.
