If you have a timing chain they are meant to last the entire engines life unless something happens like a guide or lash adjuster failing, then replacement is required, or if your doing engine repair work.

Previas can last a lot longer than that without a chain problem, but if not maintained properly, you can have problems related to the chain, like guide wear and tensioner failure, and then it's best to just replace the chain, as well.
