how does one tell if they have side impact air bags in front seats?

There should be a marking on the seat saying something like "SRS Airbag." It may either be molded into the seat or printed on a small tag affixed to the side of the seat.

side airbags are not in the seats, they are usually in the door or & on the windshield post.
