05 Toyota corolla started jumping rpms and wouldn't accelerate past 25

Asked by Screwedwithoutlube Oct 23, 2019 at 05:15 PM about the 2005 Toyota Corolla S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 05 Toyota corolla, it's always sounded kind
of loud almost like it had straight pipes but it
definitely doesn't no holes in cat either.. today on
my way home no sooner then I started it and put it
in reverse my rpm needle went nuts up and dowm,
the car is violently shaking, muffler looks like it's
going to rattle off and it wouldn't go past 25, died
twice.
I popped the hood and the motor is visibly shaking,
when the accelerator is pressed on it sounded like
something was spraying out and then a loud pop.
I must say the car was wrecked a month ago
cosmetically totaled but drove fine until today.
