Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car makes really loud grinding noise when in drive
gears. Doesn't grind in any other gear except the
drive gears. What could be the cause for this?

Check the gear oil level. If the clutch is not fully disengaging it could cause grinding noises. Worn synchronizers is another possibility.

That would have been good to know upfront. I think the transmission is probably toast. Have a transmission shop check it out before driving it again (if you can).

It did move a lil bit while making that noise. But the wheel would lock up. And now it doesn't move at all. The grinding noise just gets louder with the RPMs. Seems like something snapped maybe
