how to replace interier door handle? Is it difficult?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

can get the old one out, how hard to clip in the new one, esp. with the little metal rod that attaches to the clip. Afraid that the rod will get pulled into door cavity. How to prevent that??

I would suggest getting the Haynes manual and looking at their step-by-step instructions. You may need to remove the door panel to gain access to everything. If you can attach the metal rod to the clip without it, that's great, I would suggest taping it to the door panel or metal door frame while you are working if you are worried about losing it into the door cavity.

Quick update. Did the swap out in under five minutes. To which I say "thank You Lord," as I am NOT a real handy person, unfortunately. But it was easy enough to do. Was able to remove the old piece (had to wrestle it out a little). The new handle was easy to insert the metal rod, and then it just clipped into place. If I can do this, anyone can. Toyota dealership wanted 76.00 labor, plus 26 for the part. I did buy the part from them (third party was close to same price when you included shipping). Dealership had the part the next morning, which was nice. Hope this part last as long as the first one did (fourteen years)!

thanks for the reply! Fortunately did NOT have to remove the door panel. Just one screw holding the hande on. Then you push and work it to the right, and the piece pops off. Metal rod stayed in place (I held it) but it didn't slip into the door cavity. So a small victory today. This is an easy fix and will save you $$ to do it yourself.
