Slow, steady knocking sound before ignition (and after) from front side passenger door/window.

Asked by oogabooga Aug 04, 2012 at 11:10 PM about the 1991 Toyota Corolla Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Knocking sound feels like it is coming from the front side passenger door/window. It is steady and
slow, medium volume. It sounds just like somebody is outside, knocking, trying to get your attention.

Knocking begins as soon as the key turns onto semi-on mode where just radio and windows work.
When I fully start the engine the noise stops for 1 second then continues as before.

Haven't tried driving it or revving it. Tried opening/shutting the passenger door/window to no avail. Car
has 240,000mi on it.

Since it's coming from the door, I'd say bad speaker. It cuts off for a second when you turn the car on because all electrical power is cut and re-routed to the starter.

It was the crap antenna doing something, just turned off the radio and it is fixed! Woohoo, my engine isn't ruined!!!!
