pretty sure it makes the transmission shift higher a bit more pull when accelerating but harder on the tranny

True, it will make the the vehicle shift in a "sport" type mode. It is only on automatics. The vehicle will perform better and get worse fuel economy. It will not hurt the vehicle to use it as often as you like, but you will be seeing the fuel station more often.
