Just run what the owner's manual suggests. I believe it is 5w30 and use a name brand. Change it at 5,000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first.

Let me fill you in on that, I use Walmart oil super tech 5 w 30 and never had a problem I also used it on my 94 Chevy pick up and got over 200 thousands miles on the engine and when I had to junk it it was only because the clutch master cylinder went like 3 times in one year but the engine started and ran perfect. Think about this ,when was the last time you seen a engine fail or lock up cause of the brand of oil, I have never seen one, Transmissions yes engine seized up no . Don't waste your money oil is oil .

Am I understanding the comments right? So the answer to the oil change on the 08 Solara should not be synthetic.
