Sell car as-is or repair first?

Asked by Alina Oct 09, 2019 at 12:45 PM about the 2002 Toyota Camry SE V6

Question type: General

Looking to sell my 2002 Camry SE (V6, leather
seats, 105,000 miles). However, the throttle
body has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
My mechanic estimated the cost around
$1,000 to replace it. Should I replace the
throttle body and sell it, or sell it as-is??

Not running your car may only be worth $200. Do the math on the repair cost vs the price you could get.

You mean if the car is not running? It runs very well, but the engine shuts off when the car is idling (not all the time, but periodically..and only when parked, it’s never happened at a red light/stop sign). I tried looking up costs but it’s difficult to determine how much it would go for with specifically, a bad throttle body. In general, 2002 Camry’s in this mileage range go for $2,500-3,500 in my area.
