Avalon display year stuck at 1018

Asked by GuruB3XBW Jan 25, 2019 at 07:32 PM about the 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS

Question type: General

Why is it that we can send folks to the Moon but Toyota can't display a year
beyond 2018 on its 2001 Avalon? Even more mysterious is that they printed
this conundrum in the Owner Manual, even though it would seem to be a
simple programing operation.

Some bright fellow in procurement got a great deal on a million clocks that had a limited range on the year. Saved a million nickels and who cares about folks that keep cars past their design life of 3 years anyhow. Yes, 3 years. If they expected them to reliably last longer, they would have a longer warranty. LOL
