Could the solenoid make a crazy sound when you try to start the vehicle or would it just be the starter possibly?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Cleaned the battery terminals yesterday.. Jumped in after cleaning them and the car
started right up. Went in the house and came back out to go to the store and when I went
to start it it made a very angry sound.. I made this video so people could hear the sound

Well that is difficult to tell as you literally only did it for 1 second. You can see that the motor is turning over when it was making that sound. The solenoid can make a lot of noise as if is is engaging and disengaging rapidly due to poor connection or bad battery but I don't believe that is with your case. I would remove the starter and check the teeth (gear) on it, also make sure the bendix ( the gear part) should slide back and fourth pretty freely while being spring loaded in one direction. If that all seems fine, time the check the flywheel. Mark the flywheel where the starter came out, check the teeth of the flywheel for wear, you can see them from the hole your took the starter out of, rotate the flywheel slowly checking all the teeth, make sure you rotate the flywheel all the way around by bringing the mark you made back around. You can rotate to motor by putting a socket on the front crankshaft bolt with a ratchet.
