Can't start my 4runner

I have a security feature on my 1998 Toyota
4runner ltd where you need to put the key in
1st position, turn on left signal, put your foot
on the brake then start it up.. or it just honks
at you.
I was towing some junk to the dump when i
turned the car off and when i went to start it
up the signal brake combo didn't work,
turning the key normaly didn't work and the
button on the stick to put it in Drive is locked
up? Anyone know how to turn off the
security feature so i can unlock the stick?

Had similar prob w/'98 4-Runner LTD--First, turn-off security by (after locking all doors),unlock using REMOTE!------Then if you still can't shift,make sure brake lights work(replace bad bulb). I know; but true. Or, if brake lights are ok,there is an access on the rear of the shift handle LOW that you can slide open and unlock the shift using a common screwdriver------------ANY TOW TRUCK DRIVER SHOULD KNOW BOTH OF THESE"TRICKS".
