I have a 1995 four runner 3rd gen with a 3.4 motor
and tranny in it. It's a 5 speed. For the past couple
weeks I've been smelling this burning oil smell
inside the cab. I looked at the back of the engine
and notice that there is a little bit of oil. Are my head
gaskets leaking and or going to blow. If it blows
does it cause a lot damage. Do I need to replace
the head gaskets soon and what would cause them
to leak oil? Thank you

Answering this kind of question from behind a keyboard is difficult, not seeing the car. But I can address part of it. If a head gasket blows, yes, it's serious and expensive. If the car is high mileage and been overheated, then it is likely that the head gasket is blown. Pull the dipstick and if the motor oil looks like chocolate milk, even more evidence of same.

All FordNut says is true, but I suspect a oil leak, like from a valve cover, or a oil pressure sending unit and the oil just dripping down and burning on maybe the exhaust, or something hot.

I had a buddy look at it and he said it's a backs cover leak and it slowly drops on the exhaust manifold. The dip stick is clean oil not milk chocolate. Thank you
