A/C compressor clutch. blowing 10 amp fuse

Asked by GuruW723F May 31, 2018 at 08:45 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: General

have been told by repair shops that clutch and compressor must both be replaced when the only problem is that clutch blows 10 amp fuse when a/c turned on.  One shop told me that the front compressor seal may leak Freon if clutch only is replaced.  A/c was working fine before this.  this is a 2006 Chevy impala, V6 engine.  I don't understand why I can't just replace the clutch without replacing the compressor.

You can but the problem is probably with the magnetic coil that draws in the ac clutch
