temp gauge rising but car not running hot yet

I would check coolant level. If low top it off and inspect for leaks. If no leaks found I would do a pressure test on the cooling system. If pressure drops you do have a leak somewhere and it should be easier to locate with the engine cool. If coolant level is not low I would suspect your thermostat sticking closed.
