coolent leak 2001 Subaru 2.5 engine

I suppose it might be a head gasket leak or a leaking thermostat gasket. If the leak is really small I would use Subaru brand anti-leak in the radiator. If it helps you can get more miles out of your car.

I changed my timing belt about two months ago but because of time constants i did not change the water pump I wonder if this could be the water pump leaking I know the weep hole is in that general area. If I have to do the water pump is there an easy way to make sure the timing belt stays in place I was thinking of tying it in place with some plastic ties and just take the belt off the sprocket so I can het at the water pump

Hi Keith, hope you're well..... I'm sure you would agree that for the amount of money you paid for your car......your return on investment is really high... Only question is...how many more miles do you want to go? Maybe you are trying to get 300,000...??? If you are replace the head gaskets with multi layered ones and improved technology.... At some point....it will be a case of diminishing returns.. didn't you say you only paid less than $1000 for your car? -----Mark

Grasshopper...go away! Keith, there's a chance you've a weeping wp bearing seal, but it's more likely your head gasket's done. Try a half bottle of cheap Bar's Leaks and re-assess in a few days (you needn't use Subie's pricier "red" one.) If still leaking either toss the car or seek a solid $1.5k head gasket repair if rust or other pricey needs suggest moving on.

I agree with both Mark and Subie guru it is time to just drive the car untill it won't drive anymore I am done putting big bucks into it I will try some sealer and see how it goes anyone got a good one that might work better than any other one ?? thanks I do have a new water pump i can throw in there maybe i will try that maybe not

Save the labor and just use the Bar's Leaks. If it doesn't work a new waterpump will not help either, so save the time and money.
