No electrical power and fuses testing as a ground

Asked by Bustedknucklehead Sep 02, 2020 at 10:15 AM about the 2001 Subaru Outback Base Wagon

2001 Subaru outback has no power to anything
other than the post on the starter when I hook my
test light to the positive battery cable and test the
fuses interior or exterior or post an alternator they
all test as a ground. What the heck? I have a multi
meter but I am having no luck does anyone know
how I can track this down? Any help Would be
greatly appreciated!

Try the MAIN fuse (BIG one). It can blow if battery is connected backwards in order to save the electrical system downstream. If it's blown you probably should NOT bypass it for testing, just in case the problem is a dead short that could cause meltdowns.
