Mysterious potential keyless entry or car alarm remote with 1998 Subaru Legacy?

Question type: General

I recently obtained a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon. With my wagon came a really
ambiguous remote with a single button and no label or sign of brand name. The button
doesn't appear to light up or do anything. I am inclined to think that it may be a keyless
entry remote, as my rear view mirror also has antenna-looking things behind it. My
apologies for lack of car lingo. I would really just like to know what this is if anyone has
any knowledge!

I'm less inclined to believe it's a keyless entry because there's only the one button every keyless remote I've seen has 2 buttons minimum, however it may be a remote start. Like Judge Roy said though, best way to find out is put a good battery in it and try again to see what it does.

Looks very much like a cheap alarm remote. The antenna could be part of something entirely different, like an old style phone holder.
