brake lights 1998 subaru impreza outback sport

Asked by mattquintana Jan 14, 2008 at 11:16 PM about the 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have 3 brake lights one on the window, in the middle, and one on each side of the car.  the one in the middle works good, but the two on the side do not work.  The ones on the sides are not getting any power.  The bulbs are good, because i switched them with the blinker bulbs and they worked fine.

Have you checked your fuses? or as I was reminded a post or two ago, The brake stop switch (it is monted on or near your brake pedal. But I would think it is a wiring issue, use a volt light or voltmeter and start at the back (brake lights) and work torwards the front, you may have a bad wire/fuse. Best of luck, Hope this helps.

Agreed, check for a short in the wiring or even perhaps corrosion at the terminals where the lamps go into the socket.
