96 Subaru Impreza, AWD to FWD!?!?!?

I have a 1996 Subaru Impreza and there seems to
be something wrong with the rear wheels in my all-
wheel-drive. I have narrow it down to a problem
with the solenoid in the transmission. I've asked
people how do you turn in all wheel drive into a
front wheel drive. I already know about the front
wheel drive switch in the engine compartment that
you put a fuse in, but the problem with mine is that
with the solenoid not working, neither does the
fuse.  I'm worried that this popping and pulling
noise that is in my rear wheels has done too much
damage to the differential.  So what my question is,
how do I permanently convert my all-wheel-drive
Subaru to a front wheel drive if there is no saving
the differential by replacing the solenoid?

Well, congratulations on the longevity of your 1996! I'm sure that you have a lot of miles on this car. I don't know if it's possible to do what you're looking for, but, I would consult my mechanic.

Thanks. Actually it only has 120,000 original miles and that's why I would like to keep it going... Please let me know what your mechanic says. I need all the help I can get!

Nicholas- when I wrote that, I mentioned consulting "my mechanic", I was really suggesting was that you should consult "your mechanic"..... call the person who you normally deal with.. Good luck.
